Claim: A video shows overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in Hong Kong shouting “Impeach Sara Now!” upon Vice President Sara Duterte’s arrival at the “Pasasalamat kay PRRD with OFWs” event on Sunday, March 9.

Rating: FALSE

Why we fact-checked this: The video has garnered an estimated 241,000 views, 2,400 reactions, 2,000 comments, and 1,900 shares as of writing.

The video, which was posted on the same day when the sortie was held, confuses people by creating a false narrative about the real situation during the event.

One Facebook user commented, “Grabe pati pala sa [Hong Kong] na mga OFW ay impeach [Sara] din (Even in Hong Kong, OFWs are impeaching Sara too).”

The facts: The video is fabricated. Original videos on TikTok show that the crowd welcoming the Vice President is composed of Duterte supporters. They were chanting her surname upon her arrival.

The audio “Impeach Sara Now!” is not the video’s original sound. It was extracted from a video of a January 31 rally calling for Duterte’s impeachment.

Dutertes in Hong Kong: The Vice President joined her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, in Hong Kong for a thanksgiving event and campaign sortie on March 9. This was amid reports that the International Criminal Court had already issued a warrant of arrest for the former president known for his bloody war on drugs and extrajudicial killings.

In the said event, the Vice President hinted at her presidential bid in the 2028 elections despite her ongoing impeachment trial for alleged misuse of confidential funds, betrayal of public trust, among others.

The former president was arrested on March 11 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after returning from Hong Kong. On the night of the same day, he was flown out of the country to The Hague in the Netherlands, where he will face charges over alleged crimes against humanity. – Angelee Kaye Abelinde/Rappler.com
