At Home sa Abroad: How will overseas Filipinos vote in 2025?

MANILA, Philippines – In 2025, overseas Filipinos will be able to vote via the internet for the first time.

Internet voting will not just be one of the modes of voting, but the mode assigned to the majority of areas in the world, including those with large Filipino populations. But many migrant Filipinos might ask — is it safe? Will it work? And how about the Filipinos who will still use the traditional personal and postal modes under the new system with Miru?

Pre-enrollment, the first step to participating in the online voting system, opened on Thursday, March 20, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced. This episode was pre-recorded on Wednesday, March 19.

In this episode of At Home sa Abroad: Stories of Overseas Filipinos, multimedia reporter Michelle Abad sits down with Comelec Office for Overseas Voting acting director Ian Geonanga to talk about internet voting, and what challenges in the old system brought the Comelec to proceed with this new era for overseas Filipinos.
