IN PHOTOS: Priest holds street confessions on Fridays of Lent

MANILA, Philippines – On Fridays of Lent, the streets are his confessional box.

Photos shared by Father Danny Pajarillaga of Christ the King Parish (CTKP) in Filinvest II, Quezon City, show him hearing confessions at View River in Barangay Batasan Hills on Friday, March 7.

Pajarillaga is doing this every Friday of Lent, a 40-day penitential season for Catholics, as part of the Jubilee Year of Hope.

“Traditionally, we do the confession inside the church, but in the spirit of the Jubilee, I get out of the confessional box and go to the streets and alleys to invite the unchurched and busy people to avail of the grace of God,” Pajarillaga told Rappler.

“I believe that the Church should go down to the people, especially to the depressed areas among the poor,” he added.

Pajarillaga noted that Jesus “did not stay in one place.” “He was a vagabond preacher, eating with sinners and tax collectors. He never stopped in search for the ‘lost sheep.'”
