MANILA, Philippines – The father of actress Angel Locsin, Angel M. Colmenares, died on Wednesday, March 5 at the age of 98. The family confirmed his death to ABS-CBN News on Thursday, March 6.
As the Locsin family mourns his passing, Angel paid tribute to the man who shaped her into the person she is today, writing that he “will forever be [their] superhero.”
“We will miss you dearly, Daddy,” she wrote, sharing sweet photos from the past.
“We love you, Daddy Angel. Forever in our hearts,” Locsin added.
Behind the strong and celebrated actress-philanthropist is a daughter who deeply admired and treasured her father. To Angel, he was her role model; in a 2019 Magandang Buhay episode, Locsin shared that her father worked hard to provide for his family and always put them first.
“Triny niya yung best niya na gawin happy yung childhood ko,” she said. (He did everything he could to give me a happy childhood). To pay it forward, she gifted him with a beachfront property in Zambales.
Her father’s sacrifices inspired Angel to work hard and give back. She said that she stayed in showbiz not just for herself but to hopefully save up for an eye operation for her father that, unfortunately, came too late.
“Akala ko makakaipon lang ako… nalate ako ng ipon ‘di ko napagamot eyes ni Daddy hanggang sa too late na,” she shared.
Faith was a cornerstone of her father’s life.
“Si Daddy kasi napaka-prayerful nun, napakasipag sa church (Daddy was so prayerful and dutiful in church),” Locsin shared. Even in blindness, he remained steadfast in his beliefs.
In a video shared by Locsin on Facebook with Ecclesiastes 12:13 as the title, her father said that the two ways to go to heaven are to “believe in Jesus Christ and obey His commandments.” This pushed him to change his lifestyle — undoing vices and bad behaviors — to have peace of mind.
The Locsin family has requested privacy during this time and thanked everyone who has expressed their love and condolences.
