MANILA, Philippines – Meta Platforms announced a policy change to its storage policies for Facebook Live video recordings, warning users that new live broadcasts will only exist on Facebook for 30 days.

Facebook said that beginning Wednesday, February 19, “new live broadcasts can be replayed, downloaded or shared from Facebook Pages or profiles for 30 days, after which they will be automatically removed from Facebook.”

Meanwhile, archived live videos will be deleted in waves over the span of months, though before these archived live videos are deleted, users will receive a notification — through email and via the application — giving users 90 days to download those videos to their devices, transfer them to cloud storage or convert them into a new reel before they are deleted.

Prior to these policy changes, videos were stored indefinitely.

Facebook will give users tools for downloading videos individually or in bulk, transferring the videos to specific cloud storage providers, or converting portions of older videos into new reels.

Additionally, users will also have the option to defer the deletion for an additional six months.

“If you need additional time to download your old live videos, we are providing the option to defer deletion for an additional six months. “After that period, if you do not make a choice, your old live videos will be removed and will no longer be available,” Meta said.

Instructions to download, transfer, convert and defer the deletion of videos is available on this blog post. – Rappler.com
