MANILA, Philippines – Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) continues to expand its healthcare business.
Its digital healthcare unit Metro Pacific Health Tech Corporation (mWell) has inked a deal to acquire KonsultaMD from the Ayala Group’s Globe 917Ventures. The app currently boasts having 2.7 million users on board, on top of a network of doctors.
Aside from 24/7 doctor teleconsultations, KonsultaMD also offers diagnostics, medicine delivery, and homecare.
“This purposeful action underscores our commitment to support Universal Health Care in making lasting impacts, particularly in underserved communities throughout the Philippines,” mWell president and chief executive officer Chaye Cabal-Revilla said in a statement on Tuesday, February 11.
“By integrating our resources with KonsultaMD, we are well-positioned to provide expansive and high-quality healthcare to all Filipinos, both locally and globally.”
The acquisition will expand mWell’s reach and resources. Metro Pacific’s own platform already has 3.1 million users, with over 90,000 based across Asia, South America, Africa, North America, Oceania, and Europe.
Like KonsultaMD, mWell also offers online consultations and has its own e-pharmacy. The platform also boasts of having an AI-powered health management.
What differentiates mWell from KonsultaMD is that users can integrate health data collected from smart watches or other wellness devices on the mWell app.
Users can pair their own mWellness Wearables, fitbit, Garmin, and Oura. Android and Apple users can also use their health data.
“KonsultaMD will continue to be the trusted platform our users know and love — now with even more ways to deliver quality, accessible, and seamless healthcare,” KonsultaMD chief executive officer Beia Latay said.
In the meantime, the healthcare superapp will be operating under mWell. – Rappler.com
