MANILA, Philippines – It seems that two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao will have no trouble adjusting to overseas pro basketball life in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
Just three weeks after making his debut for Goyang, the Gilas Pilipinas prospect put the KBL on notice after exploding for a career-high 36 points on 12-of-26 shooting and 6-of-14 from three as the Sono Skygunners edged the Wonju DB Promy and Fil-Am reigning MVP Ethan Alvano, 86-82.
Quiambao also tallied 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks across an encouraging 36-minute leash as he marked his first pro career win in four appearances so far.
This also marks the third straight reset of his career-best scoring mark ever since returning from an ankle injury in his debut last January 13.
Quiambao returned on January 28 against fellow ex-UAAP star Javi Gomez de Liano and Anyang, scoring 14 points in an eventual 94-69 rout loss.
He then followed up with 18 points in a close 78-73 loss against the JD Cagulangan-boosted Suwon, before erupting for 36 against the Alvano-led Wonju.
Goyang will need a lot more of the same production from its prized import as it sits dead-last in the ten-team league with an 11-24 record despite snapping a four-game skid. – Rappler.com
