MANILA, Philippines – This year’s Ramon Magsaysay Awards celebrate individuals and groups whose “transformative leadership and unwavering commitment have made a profound impact across Asia.”
The presentation ceremony on Saturday, November 16, recognizes Japanese filmmaker and Studio Ghibli founder Miyazaki Hayao, Bhutanese scholar Karma Phuntsho, Vietnamese physician Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, Indonesian forest conservationist Farwiza Farhan, and Thailand’s Rural Doctors Movement.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award is considered as Asia’s premier prize and highest honor, the region’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize. The award is named after Ramon Magsaysay, the seventh Philippine president.
