PAMPANGA, Philippines – Typhoon Marce’s widespread destruction in Cagayan left toppled trees, shattered glass from commercial establishments, and rows of damaged homes, as authorities continued to assess the extent of the damage in the province on Friday morning, November 8.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that as of 9 am, 40,478 individuals from 12,277 families across 311 barangays in 26 municipalities were impacted by the storm’s strong winds and heavy rains.
The number of evacuees who sought temporary shelter has risen to 30,271 people from 10,366 families. No casualties have been reported so far.
PDRRMO chief Ruelie Rapsing told Rappler that a rapid damage assessment and needs analysis is currently underway to assess the full extent of the damage in the province.
Some residents took to social media to share the destruction caused by the typhoon in their community.
As of 9 am, there were power outages in several areas, including in the towns of Abulug, Sta. Teresita, Penablanca, Buguey, and all of Cagayan Electric Cooperative 1’s service area, along with parts of Ballesteros, Lal-Lo, Baggao, Calayan, Allacapan, Lasam, Pamplona, and Sta. Praxedes.
Authorities continue to coordinate and monitor the situation across the province and conduct clearing operations. – Rappler.com
